  • Thursday Class - 10.30am - 11.15am - Chabad House, Park Lane,  Whitefield, M457PX

There’s a real community feel to our Funky Families classes as siblings, grandparents, childminders and friends come together to sing and share the music making experience. There will be a different mix of activities and songs to stimulate and enlighten the older children whilst keeping the younger ones entertained and engaged throughout the class.

Treat your developing monkey to a morning full of adventure and creativity. These interactive classes are full of energy and enthusiasm. In every class your child will get to experience at least two percussion instruments (usually more), and many varied and exciting props. Each week will have a different theme keeping it interesting for your developing monkeys. We also have favourite songs to keep some familiarity to encourage repetition learning too. Some of the songs we play are traditional nursery rhymes or popular tunes whilst other songs have been adapted. There are also some original Funky Monkey Songs too.

It's no wonder that our Funky Families classes are very popular!

How does music help your child?

All Funky Monkey sessions follow the recommendations of The Early Years Foundation Stage. All accompanying grown-ups are actively encouraged to join in with the music-making at Funky Monkey classes, as by sharing music and songs with your child you will help them to develop important skills such as: Numeracy Listening Communication & Language Physical Development Memory Self-confidence Creativity & Imagination Personal Social & Emotional Development All this, as well as giving them a life long appreciation and love of music!!

What do the experts say?

Singing engages both hemispheres of the brain, and adding movements such as tapping, drumming, playing instruments, or dancing enhances brain engagement even further by stimulating the frontal lobes. Think of it as making spoken language a multi-sensory process, and we all know sensory stimulation is food for the brain! In addition to stimulating their brains, when you sing songs with your children, they are learning to hear the similarities and differences between sounds (also known as auditory discrimination), which is important for language learning and pre-reading skills. You are also teaching them new vocabulary, modeling phrase and sentence structure, exposing them to the concepts of rhyming and alliteration, and strengthening their memories. Music provides repetition, which is important for learning new concepts, and it breaks words down into sounds and syllables so that your child is better able to process them.

"I have been to many music classes and Funky Monkey is the best class.

With her amazing voice and how she joins in with the kids in every dance, jump and song, Andrea manages to bring out the best from the kids and they have the best time. Every time is a new adventure with lots of fun and new things to learn. The next class can't come fast enough for my funky monkey!"

I  have been going to this class with Andrea since my daughter was 4 months old. Since coming to the classes not only have her developmental skills come on immensely but so have her social skills. Every week she has so much fun and and it's lovely to see her so confident and interacting with the other children. It's also been great for me as it gives me the chance to talk to other mums and have made some good friends from it.
Me and my daughter give Andrea and Funky Monkey classes a big thumbs up! X                                                 Nicki - Sunnybank

I loved Andreas class with my eldest, and I'm looking forward to starting up again with my newest edition. She fills the class with plenty of songs, dancing and props - there's never a dull moment. She is always punctual and reliable too. A+++
